Mara villa is a house designed for two friends. These villas are individually situated on separate plots of land in Mara village, Damavand. Given the residents’ friendship, creating a connection and maintaining the building's integrity while preserving privacy was a design consideration. As a result, the boundaries between houses were transformed into delicate partitions. The site is surrounded by a tranquil landscape. The southern border of the site is defined by a river that commands building’s attention. The land gradually inclines towards the north, emphasizing the project's connection to the natural landscape. The presence of valuable trees on the site has led the design to prioritize their preservation and respect for the trees.
The structure is embedded into the earth, with its mass divided into two distinct parts. This division is also reflected within the house through the separation of social and private spaces. A void formed between these two volumes, providing an opportunity to create a vertical circulation path and access points to different levels of the project. Moreover, it offers pleasant views of the nearby river and promotes natural ventilation. This void establishes a connection between the north and south of the site, mitigating the building's mass. The building mass has been recessed on the western side to respect the existing tree and has been set back on the eastern side.
The main entrance to the house is located in the central void, with access to all floors provided by stairs and an elevator from this point. In the western section, there are three bedrooms located on the lower two levels. The living and dining room are situated in the eastern section on the ground and lower ground floors. The swimming pool, benefiting from natural light, is located on the second basement level, next to the north courtyard. The interior spaces are designed to maximize views of the southern river and pathway, while enjoying abundant natural light. Additionally, Courtyards and voids enhance the visual connection between inside and outside.
